I've been everywhere, man, I've been every-where...

For my regulars, excuse me as I wander WAY off topic for this week as I recount my BBQ pilgrimage to Lockhart, TX. I promise I'll return to my healthier ways quite soon!

I've been to: Birmingham, Tupelo, Ole Miss, Memphis, Little Rock, Texarkana, Frisco, Dallas, Waco, Austin, Lockhart, San Antonio, Houston, Galveston, Beumont, Port Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Biloxi, Mobile, Montgomery and back home again. Needless to say, our route ended up being a little longer than intended. Not bad for 69 hours away from home!

Along the way, I've learned a few things. For example, the water in Frisco, Texas is among the nastiest I've ever had in my life. I've learned that yes, you can survive on nothing but pancakes and meat for two days. I know that Shiner Bock goes so well with Texas Q that it should be required by law. And I've also learned that the vittles Lockhart are the best I've ever had. Is it too late to revisit my "5 things to eat before you die"?

Long story short, here's how our trip turned out:

We drove overnight on the way out (via Oxford, MS to visit a friend at Ole' Miss and Frisco, TX to have a very early breakfast with another) so that we could make it to Lockhart by lunchtime on Saturday.

We then dined at Kreuz Market in Lockhart. Saturday night we made our way to San Antonio and joined in the revelry at the Riverwalk. Sunday morning we woke early to attend Holy Mass in Spanish at the Cathedral of San Fernando (complete with their awesome Mariachi Choir) and then went to pay our respects at the Alamo. Lunchtime meant a return to Lockhart and double trips to Smitty's Market and Black's Barbecue.

Finally, stuffed and exhausted, we pointed our trusty steed East and headed home. We again drove overnight (stopping one last time in Galveston to visit yet another friend) and arrived home on Monday just in time to return our rental! Trust me, that's a lot more driving than it sounds!

Next - Kreuz Market starts us off!

Trust me, it sounds like a lot of driving! A lot of people take trips to visit museums, plays, monuments, and other tourist attractions. I think it's awesome that you went on a trip for food. I'm glad you had fun.

Obi - I'm hearing ya on the digestion front. I've had a pretty healthy (and fiber-filled) diet since.

Jeff - I was tempted to, but it seemed like there were nothing but tourists around the Alamo!
